Stop Hair Loss & Start Hair Regrowth With These 9 Tips
/Hair loss in women is a lot more common than you think. More than 50% of women will experience noticeable hair loss at some point in their lives. So if hair loss isn’t something you’ve already experienced yourself, it’s very likely you will in the future. But don’t worry. There are things you can do to stop it and encourage your hair to get back to the thick, healthy locks they used to be.
Hair loss is something I’m familiar with. To find out about my experience, I recommend you take a look at this post. If you’re suffering from hair loss, know that you’re not alone. It’s something I’ve been through personally, so I know what a terrible time you’re having. If you need someone to talk to or need help creating a hair recovery plan, get in touch with me. I’m here for you.
Everyone’s hair loss journey is different. Things that work wonders for some people have little to no effect on others. There’s a lot of trial and error involved, but it’s what you’ve got to do. There’s no magic fix that suits everyone. When working with a client suffering from hair loss, we implement some or all of the following suggestions.
9 Hair Regrowth Tips That Work
1. Share and get support. This first step will cost you nothing. You simply find a safe and supportive group of people who you can share your story with. It could even just be one person.
Keeping the stress and anxiety caused by hair loss locked up inside you won’t do you any good. Being brave enough to tell someone you trust what’s going on releases the shame you’re feeling about what’s happening to your body.
Not all friends or family members are going to be safe, supportive, and available. If you’re struggling with hair loss, take a pause and find someone you can truly depend on, someone who will listen with no judgement. Got someone in mind? Great, start by opening up to them.
2. Find the right health coach. Sometimes we need more support than our family or best friend can offer. Turning to a health coach during a health crisis can be life changing. I know it was for me.
If you want extra support for your hair loss from someone who truly understands, know I’ve been in your shoes. It’s a scary, overwhelming, and stressful time.
If you choose to work with me, know I will absolutely create space for you and your healing in my life. If I’m not available at the time, I’ll do my best to find another great health coach for you. Click here to schedule a session with me.
3. Catching your zzzzs. In case you missed them, I’ve dedicated three posts to sleeping so far. I feel very strongly about getting my eight hours of sleep every night and you should too.
Sleep is essential for your health and wellbeing. When you don’t get enough sleep, your mood changes, you can put on weight, and your hair growth cycle is impacted. Sleep is the time when your body repairs itself and the regenerative process occurs. This includes hair follicle cells being repaired and regenerated.
Want to improve your health? Make sure you’re getting at least eight hours of sleep every night.
4. Lower your stress levels. We all naturally shed our hair. If you start noticing an abnormal amount of hair loss when you’re in the shower, brushing your hair, or even styling your hair, it could be due to stress.
Stress is a normal part of life. But suffering with high levels of stress for long periods of time can wreak havoc on your body. If you’ve been under stress for a prolonged time, your body will let you know about it. For some people, the body will communicate through hair loss.
As I always tell my clients, “The body never lies”. If you’re experiencing any type of health issue, look at it as an opportunity to pause, listen, and go inward. What is really going on in your life and what changes might you need to make?
5. Hair, Skin & Nails with Biotin. I started taking this supplement early on in my hair loss journey. When I shared what was happening in my life with my sister she recommended a daily dose of biotin.
Since I also suffered from brittle nails and dry skin, the supplement was the perfect combination of vitamins to help. Within 1-2 months I noticed a real difference and experienced new hair growth.
6. Biotin Gummies. These gummies are perfect for when you’re tired of taking softgel biotin capsules. I switched to the gummies and I love the taste.
The soft gel capsules and gummies I’ve linked to are both from Nature’s Bounty. Not only have I tried them both, but combined they have over 15,000 reviews on Amazon, so you know you can trust them.
After 2-3 years of taking biotin, I eventually gave my supply away because my hair was growing too fast. I like to get my hair highlighted and because it was growing so fast, I had to get it done every 4-5 weeks instead of every 6-8 weeks. It was becoming too time consuming and costly.
7. Banyan Healthy Hair Oil. This hair oil is something that really helped me combat hair loss. Within a couple months of beginning to lose my hair, I started using the oil once a week. You pour a little onto your scalp and gently massage it in, stimulating the hair follicles and thickening the roots. This makes your hair grow thicker, faster, and fuller.
This oil isn’t just great for your hair, but it’s fantastic for your scalp, too. It’s made from deeply nourishing herbs that penetrate the scalp, calming the mind and promoting a sound, restful sleep.
8. Olaplex Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment. If you read my last post, you’ll know that during my hair loss journey, I became so scared of just touching my hair that I ended up only washing it maybe once a week. And y’all, I wasn’t using dry shampoo, either. Because of this, my hair was really dirty and oily.
Today I’m recommending Olaplex based upon trying it out, as well as beauty bloggers and hair stylists swearing by it. It’s an absolute must in my hair care routine.
Whether or not you’re experiencing hair loss, it’s important to consistently wash your hair. I eventually had to get over seeing my hair fall out in the shower and when I brushed it. It was more important that my hair was clean and that I was taking care of myself.
9. Vitamin C Shower Head Filter. I bought this filter early on in my hair loss journey and noticed a big difference in my hair and skin right away. The filter traps things like chlorine, fluoride, and heavy metals from flowing through the shower head and damaging your hair. The citrus-scented vitamin C filter cartridge helps with dry scalp, itchy skin, and dandruff, as well as hair loss.
The filter fits onto most standard shower arms in minutes, so don’t worry if you’ve never fit one yourself before — it’s easy. Just remember that you need to change the filter every 2-3 months for it to be effective.
So few women ever open up about hair loss that it’s tough to believe over half of us go through it. But it’s true, we do. Start by talking to a friend, family member or health coach about your hair loss and see if they can provide a new perspective.
Often you’re too close to the problem to properly understand it. Having someone else take a look at the issue from their point of view might help you see which habits aren’t working for you and what you need to do to change them.
Have you tried any of the above hair products? If so, let me know what you think. Did they do wonders for your hair? Maybe they did nothing at all and you tried something else that worked. Either way, leave a comment and share your experience. You never know who you might be helping by typing just a couple of sentences.
