10 Sleep Essentials for the Best Night’s Sleep
/Sleep is absolutely integral to your physical, mental and emotional health. How many times have you had a bad night’s sleep then suffered from headaches, mental fuzziness or a bad mood the next day? Wouldn’t it be great if you could lay your head on your pillow, knowing you were in for eight enchanted hours of uninterrupted sleep?
While that idea might sound much more of a dream than reality, it doesn’t have to be. You can improve your sleep this very night by developing a personalized sleep ritual. But you don’t have to stop there. There are so many amazing products that have been tested and developed for years to help you fall asleep faster and get the quality rest you need to be your best.
Here are some of my faves that have helped me turn my restless, unsettled nights into calm, relaxed sleeps.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate For an even more pampering experience while you sleep, apply a facial oil serum to your skin before going to bed. Expertly designed to visibly restore skin while you sleep, this amazing beauty product is suitable for all skin types and features a relaxing blend of botanical oils, including lavender, squalane and evening primrose. The facial oil gently smooths your skin texture overnight, leaving you looking fresh and radiant when you wake up in the morning.
Lush Sleepy Body Lotion Another beauty product that does wonders for your skin and sleep routine, Sleepy is a great body lotion designed to lull you to sleep with its beautiful scent.
The sweet, comforting aroma of lavender and tonka get your mind in the serene state for sleep, while the powerful moisturizing properties lock in hydration to keep your skin soft and supple. Keep it on your nightstand so you never forget to use it before bed.
Pillow Spray If you can’t get an essential oil diffuser, the second best thing is an essential oil pillow spray. The Deep Sleep Pillow Spray is made of a mix of lavender, vertivert and wild chamomile oils which soothe your body and mind, helping you fall asleep faster and get a good night’s rest.
According to a clinical study, after using the pillow spray, 97% of people said they slept better, 98% said they felt more refreshed in the morning when they woke up and 100% of people said they’d recommend the spray to a friend.
Silk Pillowcase If you’re not comfortable wearing a sleep mask in bed, a silk pillowcase is a great alternative. This pure silk pillowcase is made from the same material as the sleep mask above, protecting your skin from the friction of cotton while you sleep.
With anti-aging, anti-sleep crease and anti-bedhead properties, this pillowcase is like an eight-hour beauty treatment every night.
Sleep Mask A sleep mask can do so much more for you than block out annoying lights that keep you awake. The Slip Pure Silk Sleep Mask is made of exclusive Slipsilk material, so it doesn’t absorb moisture from your skin like a regular cotton mask does.
It also reduces friction, lowering the pressure on the delicate area around your eyes. The silk feels so cool and soft — once you’ve tried it, you’ll never want any other kind of sleep mask ever again.
Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker PhD
Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our lives, yet we understand so little about it. Sleep expert Matthew Walker digs into the recent scientific discoveries and answers the biggest questions about sleep we all want to know the answers to in this book. From understanding what really happens to our mind and bodies during REM sleep to learning why our sleep patterns change throughout our lifetime, Why We Sleep is a brilliant read that will help you better understand and appreciate the importance of getting a good night’s rest.
Another way you can introduce calming and relaxing scents into your home is with a sleep candle. The Natural Sleep Candle includes six of the most soothing essential oils, including lavender, chamomile and clary sage.
All you’ve got to do is light the candle while winding down an hour before bed and you’ll drop off as soon as your head hits the pillow.
The easiest way to incorporate essential oils into your daily routine is with an essential oil diffuser. This is one of my favorites because its neutral colors mean it fits in almost anywhere in your home and the pineapple design adds a pop of fun wherever you put it.
Not only that, but this pineapple diffuser is also super quiet so you won’t even notice it’s there and the internal lights create 15 different color modes you can use for even more relaxation.
DoTERRA Oils are powerful essential oils that can help you in many aspects of your wellbeing, including getting a good night’s sleep. There are many different oils available, but the one I recommend for improving your sleep is lavender.
This essential oil has been widely recognized around the world as a natural sleep aid, helping you relax and sleep better. DoTERRA’s Balance blend is also excellent for helping you drift off. It’s a harmonious combination of five different essential oils, each praised for its relaxing abilities.
Journal If your brain is always buzzing when it’s time to sleep, you should definitely think about getting a journal. Journaling before bed helps you move all the busy thoughts from your brain onto paper, leaving your mind calm and ready for rest. I find that having a beautiful, brightly colored journal like this one by Rifle makes it easier to be consistent with journaling.
Even though sleep is something we do every single night, it’s a difficult thing to master. But with the right sleep essentials, your nights of tossing and turning will transform into eight hours of tranquil bliss.
